We have the premiere of Megan Knight’s brand-new single; “My Drama!” Listen below. Knight reflects on events in her life with a mix of country with an early 2000s pop beat backing the personal lyrics. In the song, Knight sings “never meant to be torn apart, I can deal with your demons and your trauma, if you can live with me and my drama”. The storyline details Knight looking back on past relationships. Megan reflects on the song by detailing that "Writing ‘My Drama’ was like taking all the confusion and contradictions stirred up in my soul and ripping it up from the roots. Trying to piece my life together to get out of the tunnel I was stuck in for so long."
The New Jersey born artist is pushing the boundaries by bringing together new pop country with a strong backing band with a wide variety of instruments and genres, as can be heard in the song. The new release by Knight was written and produced by James LeBlanc (Martina McBride and Kenny Chesney) Jimmy Nutt (Jason Isbell and Percy Sledge). These two legendary Muscle Shoals singer-songwriters took “the raw traditional musicality of the Shoals and fused it together with the Pop Contemporary sound of Nashville '', and they certainly did it very well. Knight has lots of upcoming live shows around New Jersey and Pennsylvania, you can buy tickets here. Alli Walker has released her song called “Country Music”; you can check it out here! Alli reflects on writing the song, “during the pandemic I wrote it with Brian John Hardwood and Dustin Bird. We wrote this song about growing up on country music”. The song includes 14 country music references. Alli was born and raised in Prince Edward Island, Canada, where her parents put her in everything. She remembers not liking piano lessons but regrets that decision. At 19, Walker moved to Toronto to be where the music industry was happening in Canada. “I played every festival and event for a decade. I saw Toronto as a place with more opportunities, and I also traveled back and forth to Nashville all the time”. Alli is glad she didn’t move to Nashville when she was starting out because “you only get one first impression and I had a lot of growth to do”.
Alli grew up listening to Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne, and then transitioned to Taylor Swift, Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, Kacey Musgraves and Maren Morris once she found country music. “Country music was always playing at my babysitters house and I found friends who also loved the genre. It was a slow burn but no turning back!” Her favorite song is “Enchanted” by Taylor Swift, the song came out the year she met her husband and it ended up as her wedding song. “I love performing, especially that feeling that you get as soon as you finish, and you get offstage. On stage, you’re living in the moment and once you’re off, you get to reflect on what just happened.” Alli dreams of playing Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. During the pandemic, Alli started posting content on social media including a cover of Old Dominion’s hit song “My Heart Is A Bar” on the bagpipe, an instrument she picked up for the first time when she was 12 years old! “I worked with Dave Cohen who plays the accordion and piano and he worked on the Old Dominion song. When I heard it, it sounded like an east coast/Keltic melody. Right away, I needed to do a bagpipe version of this”. You can check out the bagpipe video here. Alli has lots of new content coming out in 2022 including videos and new music as well as her sophomore album! You can stay up to date with Alli on social media at @alliwalkermusic and check out her website for news about her music, live shows, and merchandise. Macy Krew has officially released "Shine." Listen here. This song has been a fan-favorite for a long time, full of sass and honesty that preaches about following your dreams without letting anyone or anything get in the way. Macy wrote this after she had gotten cut at the end of Hollywood week at American Idol and she realized she didn't need a tv show to be an artist in the country music world. She decided to use this as motivation, penning the honest words about how she will 'shine' no matter what. This song is one of the first songs she ever wrote with another popular Idol alumni, Matt Giraud (5th place, Season 8). She hopes to bring confidence and high energy to anyone who listens to this new anthem.
Macy will be hosting her "Shine" release party the following week at The Listening Room, in addition to releasing an official music video on CMT in the coming weeks. Stay in touch with Macy on her website here. Peytan Porter has released her debut single, Therapy, you can check it out here! The song was written three years ago. “I wrote it three years ago. I came out of an awful relationship and didn't trust myself or anyone. I parked in all the spots we used to go to until it didn't hurt. I didn't want him to take Nashville away from me. That was my therapy”. Porter wrote the song alongside Mackenzie Carpenter, Micah Carpenter, and Jonathan Hutcherson. The song was produced by Greg Bates and Evan Cline. The song has been heard by many artists as a demo including Little Big Town!
Porter hails from Dawsonville, Georgia where she and her sisters all grew up playing sports. “I loved playing sports but once I started writing songs. I loved songwriting so much that I started asking if I could skip practices just so I could focus on it. I started to sing at school and at church. I remember I always showed my parents videos of singers”. Peytan loves songwriting because she loves words, stories, and emotions. “Songwriting is what made me want to pursue music”. Porter attended Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee and started as an intern at Sea Gayle Music, an independent music publishing company. In the fall of her senior year, Porter got a publishing deal but walked away from “because it wasn't right for me”. Porter dreams of playing legendary venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, Colorado, Madison Square Garden in New York City, and the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The Georgia born singer looks up to artists like Beyonce, Taylor Swift and “the most incredible genius, Dolly Parton!” Peytan’s ultimate goal is to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry! “I have spent a lot of time dreaming of this career and what I want and where I want to be. This first release has not resonated with me yet, but I am so grateful for all the risks and choices”. Porter says she has lots of new content coming out before the end of the year including a music video for the debut song and stay tuned in early 2022 for some new music! You can follow Peytan Porter on social media at @peytanporter for all news about her music! Olivia Evans’ debut EP "Level" displays the rollercoaster of emotions after the demise of a relationship. Listen here. The teen met a boy following a year-long break from music. She wasn't feeling inspired to create and decided she wanted a boyfriend. For a few months, everything was fine – until it wasn't. "I was like, 'Okay, you broke my heart. I'm going to get famous. I'm going to write songs about you,'" she said. "A couple of the songs are very direct. One of them literally says, 'You cheated, and that sucks.' But I needed this to grow up."
To round out the EP, Olivia enlisted her mother's frequent co-writer Shane Stevens and fellow pop artist Grant Landis. The singer committed to being open and transparent during the writing process. Over two weeks, she and her creative team penned 10 songs inspired by the details of her ill-fated relationship. Olivia chose five to record that best told her story. "Of Course I Do" is the first song from her EP on which she co-wrote every track. Fueled by her first devastating heartbreak, the song is a disobedient admission that she chose the wrong guy. The other songs include "Guilt," an observational up-tempo song she wrote with Landis about her ex's detachment. "Level," a duet she wrote with and features Landis, explores the distance that develops when one person is more in love than the other in a relationship. "Hate You Song," co-written by Olivia, Stevens and Nash Overstreet, is a catchy, lighthearted anthem about moving on. The trio also co-wrote the EP's final track "Leave it Behind," a poignant fragile guidance through the healing process. Listen to "Level" and follow Olivia's journey on her website here. |
