Country/Folk Artist and Songwriter Sarah McCulloch has announced her brand new full-length album Driving Me Home with the release of the new single, “Hippie Tattoo.” The song's production style has a bluegrass-tinged feel, featuring Pat Severs, a legendary Grand Ole Opry star, on the banjo and dobro. McCulloch showcases her smart and witty songwriting style in this track, with lyrics that are charming, entertaining, and relatable.
“It’s a clever and fun song, but the message is quite deep: we are more alike than not, and we all have scars,” shares McCulloch. “Tattoos are important symbols of our happy times but also our traumas, and they are deeply personal that way. People want to talk about their tattoos, so the song is a fun conversation starter, too!” LISTEN TO THE SINGLE HERE. McCulloch’s new album, Driving Me Home features “Hippie Tattoo” as its lead single. The full-length acoustic project was produced and mixed by Jim Bickerstaff (Widespread Panic, Loretta Lynn, Chuck Leavell, Gladys Knight) at Waterview Studios in Southport, NC, and written entirely by McCulloch. Driving Me Home is an inspiring collection of 12 song stories, many of which feature strong capable female archetypes who showcase the strength to triumph over adversity and the courage to move forward with independence. “Because of my own life experiences, I’ve learned no matter how bad your situation is, you have to keep moving,” shares McCulloch. “But the last song I wrote for the album, ‘Driving Me Home,’ which ended up being the title track, is ultimately about relinquishing a little of that independence and allowing for vulnerability.” Driving Me Home was recorded mostly in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina with live recording engineer Mark Thompson. The album features widely acclaimed Florida musicians Raiford Starke (Guitar, Dobro, Accordion), Jeanie Fitchen (BGVs), William Ellis (Bass), and Wayne Martin (Fiddle), as well as Pat Severs (Dobro, Banjo), Matthew Mundy (Mandolin), Stan Garber (Harmonica), and Savannah Bickerstaff and Landis Yarovvy (BGVs). The album artwork was designed by Jeremy Fetzer with photography by Nina Babel. “The overall message of this album is hope. Not becoming a victim of circumstance. Finding your voice through adversity,” shares McCulloch. “I think it is ultimately a shout-out to us women who do it all - work, take care of families, create. This album is to tell all my sisters that you’re doing it and you’re doing it well. But it’s also okay to be vulnerable because that’s what makes us human.” Born in Miami, McCulloch was raised in a swampy remote enclave of northeastern Collier County, near the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation. Her family built their home with hand-milled cypress from her Father's sawmill. She was homeschooled for most of her formative years and drew songwriting inspiration from her colorful childhood, surrounded by the Seminole Tribe and Florida pioneers. The renowned folk singer-songwriter and country artist has become known for her exceptional ability to weave captivating stories through her music. McCulloch has gained significant recognition for her songwriting skills. She has won several awards, including the South Florida Folk and Acoustic Music Festival Songwriting Competition. Additionally, she was among the top three finalists in the 2023 Will McLean Best New Florida Song Contest. With her knack for poignant lyrics and soulful melodies, the native Floridian is carving a niche for herself in the world of music, earning a loyal fan base and attracting attention both locally and across the pond in Europe. Sarah McCulloch’s full-length LP Driving Me Home will be available on all major distribution streaming platforms on May 3, 2024. The production style of the project is immersed in the authentic and unforced vibes of 90s country music. The guitar tones, with their swelling notes, paired with Harvey's authentic twang and grit in her voice, evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing. This perfectly complements the songwriter's musings on the memories of fresh new love, heartbreak, and hard-fought life lessons.
"When I started performing in 2019, I never imagined how much my passion for music would take me,” shares Harvey. “Although I had previously released a few singles, I was determined to create something truly original and authentic. With the help of some amazing co-writers, I put my heart and soul into creating this collection of songs that tells the story of my life - from my humble beginnings to where I am today." LISTEN TO THE 'ALICIA HARVEY' EP HERE. Harvey's debut EP features previously released and well-received singles "Out of the Blue" and "Losin'.” The 6-song project was produced by Harvey and Jacob Veal and recorded at VR Music Group in Maryville, Tennessee. "I collaborated with local musicians in Knoxville and also hired a few of my musician friends from Nashville to work on the project. I gave them complete creative freedom to express themselves through the music. Once the pieces were ready, we put them together to create the final recordings," explains Harvey. The project features the exceptional guitar work of Bart Walker (Hank Williams, Jr., Hannah Dasher), the drum beats of Chris Benelli (Charles Esten), Travis Solomon on steel guitar, Jon Foulk (The Dirty Gospel) on keys, Anthony Kesterson on rhythm guitar, and Jacob Veal (Necktie Social) on bass guitar. The musicians' outstanding creativity and passion are reflected in the final result, which is sure to make a lasting impression on anyone who listens to it. Harvey finds inspiration from several female country artists such as Patsy Cline, Patty Loveless, Terri Clark, Sara Evans, Ashley McBryde, and Lainey Wilson. These women share stories in their songs that are both heartwarming and heartbreaking. You can hear these same themes in Harvey's original compositions. She writes about a variety of topics, ranging from the boot-stomping honky tonk crowd-pleaser "Losin" to personal growth and the loss of her mother in "A Better Me," as well as the carefree joy of love in "Out of the Blue." OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO FOR ‘OUT OF THE BLUE’ HERE. In 2016, Harvey was given the honor of composing a touching song titled "A Little More Country" for a friend who had written lyrics about the loss of her husband. The experience inspired the songwriter to reignite her passion for music, and she considers it one of the highlights of her career so far. In 2018, Harvey participated in "The Voice Off" competition at the Wild Wing Café in Knoxville and was voted as a semi-finalist. Alternative folk/country trio, JEMS, just released their newest single "The Weather" on January 25th! Following a series of notable performances touring with She & Him as well as a LIVE performance on NPR's World Cafe, "The Weather" is expected to resonate with fans as a powerful fan favorite, capturing the essence of their live performances and getting listeners ready for their highly anticipated album release this spring. After a year of “ideating next steps for the band,” Jems are excited to hit the ground running and own their 2024!
“The Weather” is a song about “trusting yourself and being proud of the goodness that you make and the choices you make that firm foundation for your life.” It is a beautifully emotional song that they hope listeners will be inspired to understand “they are strong enough to weather the storm” that is life. The origin of “The Weather” is a unique and interesting one, as Jems were on their way to Nashville for their first co-write as a band with another artist when Jessica Rotter woke up mid-flight from a very emotional dream. As all great songwriters do, Jess reflected on her emotions through lyrics, writing a poem on the plane about life and all that is going on. When the trio landed in Nashville and met up with artist, Emily Reid, for the co-write, Reid said,” I don’t know if y’all feel like getting sad but I have this so far…” and proceeded to play, as described by Jems, “the most beautiful and haunting progression”. Between the sad haunting music and the emotional poem written by Jessica, “The Weather” emerged. Before JEMS was JEMS, they were just three friends who loved writing music and sharing their songs. In the mid-2010s, while singing backup for Jess’s very first, “pregnancy-fueled” album, Emily and Sarah Margaret became close friends. Then, in the summer of 2017, on the day of a solar eclipse in Nashville, Tennessee, the band finally released their debut album. At this moment both history and JEMS was made. Whether these women’s inspirations came from the talent and influence of their parents, a newfound love for song discovered after college, or even just starting as a way to process confusing and intense emotions, Emily, Jessica, and Sarah Margaret eventually found each other and came together to form this unique and beautiful sound. This magical and mesmerizing band of women have created a beautiful friendship over the years since the birth of the band in 2017- Emily Colombier mentions “I have enjoyed being a part of a group, that has been the most fulfilling to me- way prefer these girls to the solo journey some artists take.” Demonstrating the bond these girls have and the closeness of the band, “Jems,” itself is an acronym for the names of these women in the band- Emily Colombier, Jessica Rotter, and Sarah Margaret Huff. Be part of their journey as they get ready for a busy year full of new music, filming music videos, touring, and so much more! The band plans to release new music every month until June of 2024 so be on the lookout for their new songs and sneak peek into their full album that is set to be released on June 14th, 2024! Light up your 2024 with “A Little Fire” written and performed by Nashville-based artist, Suanna Lynn. Suanna has been keeping herself busy, writing new music, performing, and even becoming a mother to her new baby girl, Cosi. Suanna reflects on her 2023, saying that “I have just been creating new life it feels like- whether that is through music or through motherhood, I have been enjoying it all.” She has a lot of new music coming out, some that she will be singing and some that has been written for other artists. She has 5 or 6 singles she plans to release this year and is excited to play with a variety of emotions and even genres within her music. “This first one is very pop driven, the next one is very country driven, there’s one that is a ballad, …it’s really a vast representation of my inspiration and what I like to write and it’s very exciting."
Starting off with “A Little Fire,” co-written by Jason Witt, this song is born from the unpredictable challenges of 2020 and reflects Suanna’s desire to infuse life with this fire and passion that was sorely missed during the pandemic-induced shutdown. As an artist who gets much of her inspiration from being out and experiencing the world and relating to the people in it, Suanna found it difficult to find that spark that inspires her music during a Zoom write. She and Jason Witt sat and talked about the pandemic, their lives in 2020, and eventually inspiration allowed their feelings to flow through the music. This is a story in the guise of a love song, but is really “a songwriter’s cry for inspiration and for something to give us excitement- a little fire.” This song is meant to show people that inspiration can be found in even the toughest of times, but also shows listeners that they are not alone in what they are feeling. Growing up in “a very musical family” with each member pursuing their own musical passions, Suanna learned to love music early but is the only one to lean more into the songwriting aspect of music. “I would always show up to my music lessons not wanting to read the music and play what is in front of me, but to play things that I wrote- I think I was a nightmare for my Russian piano teacher!” Suanna mentions that she still feels like she is learning so much about music and the industry to this day. “I like to surround myself with high-caliber artists because then there is just so much for me to learn and explore." As she was getting started with her career, her first two years were filled with saying “yes” to anything and everything she could- “Any write, any performance, writers round etcetera, I’d say ‘let's do this, let's get out there!’- that really helped me create a group of people I love to work with and highly respect. Finding the people she enjoys doing life with has been the most special part for Suanna Lynn. Her newest addition to that group of people, her daughter Cosi, is influencing Lynn’s music already. Suanna says that “nurturing a human has made my music softer and more nurturing itself.” Listen to Suanna Lynn’s new song “A Little Fire” and keep an eye out for more shows and more of her music coming out in 2024! |
