Meet Swedish artist Maja Francis! Maja is from the south of Sweden and grew up by the ocean. Born into a musical family, her dad owned a record store, her grandfather wrote music for Eurovision, and her grandmother was a singer. At the age of 20, Maja moved to Stockholm, Sweden and started playing shows at local cafes. “I was inspired to pursue music because it was what I knew, and it felt safe”. Maja has lots of musical influences such as Alanis Morrissette, The Cranberries, Cindi Lauper, Joni Mitchell, and Dolly Parton. “I am still learning about country music. I know of CAM and Morgan Wade, both of them are incredible artists. I want to be about voice, and country music is all about your voice”.
Francis was in a duo and came to the United States. They drove from Maine to Nashville and stayed for a few months. “I never saw myself represented but Dolly (Parton) had always been all pink, sparkly, but badass. She is badass and pink”. Maja released her debut album on September 24th, where her song “Anxious Angel” is featured as the final track on the Netflix series Love & Anarchy. “This album means that I’m in love with music again and here it is. It’s my proof.” The album can be heard here. Maja loves performing on small stages where the audience is really close. She hopes to play the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville one day. Maja wants aspiring artists to know that you should “If you love music, make it work. Don’t be afraid to fail and do not look at yourself from the outside”.
