Michelle Rivers grew up in Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee, just 45 minutes south of Nashville. Her dad was a songwriter and always had songwriters in and out of her home. People like Bernie Nelson (Kenny Chesney and Wynonna) and Alan Shamblin (Miranda Lambert and Bonnie Raitt) were very familiar faces growing up. Rivers wrote her very first song at just 4 years old and learnt how to play the guitar when she was a teenager. In High School, Rivers moved to Austin, Texas. “I needed to leave Nashville and the Tennessee area to discover who I am. I then moved to Montana and never looked back. I have been here for 11 years”.
The now Montana resident loves artists like Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Lainey Wilson, but connects with artist Caitlin Canty over her song “Southern Man”. Rivers heard the song live for the first time and was captivated by it. “Southern Man” relates to her life because she is married to a southern man and lives in a northern land, that being Montana. Michelle is currently posting an original song a day on Instagram for 30 days. You can check it out here. When the country folk artist is not songwriting, she loves performing and seeing people in the crowd singing her own lyrics. Rivers dreams of doing a European tour and playing at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. Michelle wants aspiring artists to know that you should “trust your gut and go for it. Don’t get caught up in being perfect, imperfection can be beautiful”. Rivers currently has a Kickstarter campaign to fund her album. You can find it here. Check out Michelle Rivers’ website all information regarding tour dates and music.
