Fresh to the Canadian Americana scene, Toronto's Gillian Nicola has released her new single "Night Comes to Call" from her forthcoming album "Dried Flowers."
Recorded in Toronto and featuring her longtime band, “Night Comes to Call” is an ode to self-care and contemplation - a beautiful take on solitary joys. Based in Hamilton, Gillian took an unusual route to becoming a roots based singer-songwriter. Trained in classical voice, she spent her teen years performing in a classic rock cover band, before launching herself into alt-country when she began writing songs. Her music ranges from acoustic folk singer-songwriter to textured and electric Americana and it reflects a knowledge and appreciation of the genre’s past and present. With nominations for the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award, Toronto Independent Music Awards and Hamilton Music Awards, Nicola has toured Canada’s east and west coasts. In addition, she’s opened for Amelia Curran and shared the stage for the JUNO Awards’ Love Song Edition with Tom Wilson, Terra Lightfoot, Tomi Swick, and Lori Yates. Engaging in her community is just as important to Nicola as performing. When she’s not focusing on her own creative process - she’s nurturing others by teaching voice and guitar, volunteering for Girls Rock Camp Toronto, sitting on a Musician’s Committee in Hamilton.
