Get to know Gabrielle Mooney, who’s latest single “Bad” has everyone’s attention. Mooney describes the song as “an essential part of my story and lets everyone in on my journey as a person, that I haven’t been very vocal about before. It talks about the struggle between right and wrong, and what it’s like to feel like an outsider where you don’t belong. Being able to write this song was an incredible way to reflect and tell this part chapter in my story.” Gabrielle states her influences and favorite artists include Tim McGraw, Shania Twain, Dolly Parton, Faith Hill, and Keith Urban. Gabrielle also noted she loves rock music, which is most evident on “Bad.” You can the watch the official music video for “Bad” which premiered on Taste of Country below.
Growing up Mooney praises her family who “was always so music oriented and encouraged me to be creative. Music was also something that really bonded my family together from just loving it as a whole to performing a church, it always brought us together.” Gabrielle is not the only well-known Mooney in her family, she is the older sister of Shay Mooney, half of the award-winning duo Dan + Shay.
Have you ever come across the name LYRX in the liner notes of a song? Believe it or not, that is Gabrielle as well! She has written many songs including “90’s Country” by Walker Hayes released in 2018 and has only gained momentum from then. She has collaborated with songwriters Shane McAnally (Kacey Musgraves, Old Dominion, Kelsea Ballerini) and Danny Orton (Reba McEntire, Lady A, Billy Ray Cyrus) along with a handful of other talents.
Despite the many hats Mooney wears, she never forgets where she came from. Being a new woman in the country music industry, Mooney gives the advice to those on the road behind her “to stand your ground and just feel confident in yourself and your craft. As a woman in the music industry, I think it’s so important to remember your values and to stay true to who you are. Lead your own path and trust your gut.”
