Emily Scott Robinson has released her long-anticipated album, “American Siren”! you can check it out here. This album is Scott Robinson’s third album but the first from her new record label, Oh Boy Records, which was founded by the late John Prine. “Jody (Whelan, the head of Oh Boy Records) reached out to me over Instagram about my song “The Time for Flowers” and said we would love to work with you, and then just like that, I signed a record deal!”. You can check out “The Time for Flowers” here. Scott Robinson says this album has “a little bit of everything. It has songs to make you cry, make you feel nostalgic, it is an emotional record with storytelling, characters, and life cycles”. One of the songs on the album, “Cheap Seats” was released in August 2021. The song, which you can check out here, is about one time when Emily saw John Prine play the Ryman Auditorium, a venue she dreams to play herself one day. “My seat was behind a poll, so it was a cheaper seat, and I took this idea of sitting in the cheap seat and wanting to be on that stage”. Scott Robinson’s favorite song on the album is “Every day in Faith because the song is a hymn about seeing things and following things through in life”.
Emily grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina and it was not until high school that she picked up a guitar and taught herself to play and sing. Scott Robinson went on to be a social worker and did not pursue music full time until 2016 when she enrolled in “The Song School”, a camp for songwriting. “I got burnt out as a social worker and I felt called to a creative life. I never saw or was around songwriters so If you do not see anyone doing it, how can you see that it is possible? I Never entertained it as a possibility for a career until this camp”. Scott Robinson entered a local competition and ended up winning 8 hours of studio time where she proceeded to create her debut album, “Magnolia Queen”. Emily looks up to fellow Americana artist Brandi Carlile. “Brandi and her band (Tim and Phill Hanseroth) built their career from the ground up, by gaining one fan at a time. She uses her platform to bring awareness to marginalized people and country artists, along with her Looking Out Foundation, she does incredible work”. Emily Scott Robinson launches her tour on October 30th in New York City and will be performing around the United States until December, you can purchase tickets here.
