Six albums later and Carrie Underwood is nowhere near slowing down. Cry Pretty was released on September 14, 2018. Debuting at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, Cry Pretty made Underwood the first women to hit the top of the chart with four country albums. She has since released four singles, “Cry Pretty”, “Love Wins”, “Southbound”, and “Drinking Alone”. Cry Pretty is the first album that Underwood has co-produced. She worked with producer, David Garcia, to make this extraordinary album. This is a huge feat for women in country music, being that country music is a male-dominated world. “I mean, I get it: if you were a songwriter in Nashville, and 90-plus percent of artists are male, are you going to go into your writing session and write a song for a woman?” says Underwood on why she genuinely writes the majority of her songs.
The Cry Pretty Tour 360 began on May 1st in Greensboro, NC and ended October 31st, 2019 in Detroit, MI. Female groups Runaway June and Maddie & Tae performed alongside Underwood throughout the duration of her 54 stop tour. This was Underwood’s first tour since 2016, so it was long awaited for her millions of fans to say the least. Underwood was no stranger to her emotions throughout the process of writing and releasing this album. In November of 2018, she suffered a nasty fall that required surgery and more than 40 stitches. Not only was she dealing with the recovery from her freak accident, she was dealing with the deeply personal ache of three miscarriages. She spoke to The Guardian saying, “I was still trying to do my job and put on a smiley happy face and be Carrie Underwood. And then I’d go home and fall apart.” Sharing her experience through songwriting, she was able to heal and connect with so many other women, “I guess you wait for things to stop hurting at some point. But letting yourself go there… other people that are going through the same thing, it kind of connects you to them.” If you follow Underwood, you most likely noticed the dazzling stage makeup she wore throughout the Cry Pretty 360 Tour. Every night she would have strategically placed purple and pink glitter tears dripping down onto her cheeks. Thousands of young girls would walk through the doors with their own version of Underwood’s makeup. Some tour stops even had booths set up with makeup artists so her fans could get decorated for the show. Underwood was moved to (pretty) tears during a surprise presentation of Cry Pretty being certified platinum by the RIAA. She had this to say about her massive achievement, “This means a lot, because I feel like this is the project that I’ve done, and the album that I’ve done, that is the most ‘me’. I’m honored and humbled, and God is good.” Most recently, Underwood has announced her book tour to promote her book, “Find Your Path.” “Find Your Path” reveals her secrets for, “fitting diet and exercise into a packed routine.” She will be visiting Brooklyn, NY, Stanford, CT, Nashville, TN, and Los Angeles, CA.
