Singer-Songwriter Amy Martin has officially announced the recording of her new album! Martin is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter currently living in Boulder, Colorado. Martin grew up on the east coast, first in Glen Burnie, Maryland, and then, at 6 years old, moved to Harrisonburg, Virginia. Martin started singing at 6 years old with her mom in a karaoke bar. Amy grew up on Motown and blues, but it was not until she was introduced to Patsy Cline by her grandmother, and heard Martina McBride on the radio, that she had an ear for country music. While Amy never had any formal musical training, she credits listening to Martina McBride in her bedroom. Once finished high school, Martin went to college and formed a bluegrass band, “Many Nights Ahead” with friends she knew in high school. From 2012 to 2019, they toured parts of the east coast.
In March 2020, Martin dropped her first, community funded, self-titled, solo album “Amy Martin. Then in April 2021, she put out a song “Sweet Virginia”, announcing her upcoming move to the Denver, Colorado area later that month. While Martin still has love for Virginia, she stated that “it was time to take my music to new ears”You can hear “Sweet Virginia” here. “Music is so much more than what sounds good. I do it for the connection, community, for that give and take”. While Martin listens to all kinds of genres of music, it was not until 2020 that she found an artist that connected with her. 6x Grammy winner Brandi Carlile. “I had heard Brandi Carlile’s name, but I thought she was an older artist. Somebody told me to play a cover of (her song) “The Story”,” and from that moment on, Martin went on a Brandi Carlile journey. “I lived my entire life not knowing about her, but we have all these parallels. Seeing somebody that I identify with do it well and stand up for what they believe in is important to me”. When Brandi Carlile posted on TikTok a harmony version of her new song “Right On Time” and invited fans to sing the lead, Martin jumped on the opportunity, and her first TikTok ever, got shared in an Instagram story by Brandi herself. The new album that we can expect from Amy Martin will be produced by Grammy award winner Chance McCoy (Brandi Carlile, Margo Price, and Willie Nelson). "A studio in Nashville reached out to record and produce my album and I wanted to do research”. That led her into looking into producers in general and came across a way to contact Chance McCoy. “I sent him a demo. He listened to “Sweet Virginia” and he said really liked it and that he’d be interested in working with me. I’ve found someone that I feel I can really partner with in making this album”. The album will be community funded; you can donate by checking out the Indiegogo page here. Check out Amy Martin’s website for music, merchandise, and news on the upcoming album!
