An ode to their journey of finding home in their transition from Canada to Nashville, singer-songwriter duo Twin Kennedy release their highly anticipated Homebound EP, a stunning collection of six original songs. Available today, the release comes on the heels of the music video for the title track, which features a stunning performance at The Warehouse Studio in Vancouver and intimate family footage of the sisters growing up in their hometown of Powell River, BC.
"Creating this album has truly been a homecoming," the duo share. "Being on stage sharing our music with people we love has always felt like coming home. This was the inspiration for us, titling our album. We never could have imagined that the title would take on a whole new meaning this past year, with so many people becoming literally homebound. We are so grateful to be getting back on the road, sharing these new songs with everyone. Walking back out onto the stage, we truly feel homebound, and there is no place like home." Cultivating the authentic sound that is uniquely Twin Kennedy, the album was recorded between four different studios, The Warehouse Studio, The Tone Distillery, Sound Emporium Studios, The Shoebox and was produced by Nashville based, Canadian producer Dustin Olyan, along with Twin Kennedy themselves. Following the recent release of the sentimental title track, the EP is filled with evocative songwriting and storytelling, from heart-swelling ballads filled with raw emotions & crystalline vocals such as “Blindspot” and “Ghost Town” to upbeat, joyful ditties, such as “Little Life” and “Call It Love.” The collection showcases the versatile and dynamic style of Twin Kennedy’s artistry. The EP culminates with “Wise Woman,” a duet with fellow Canadian Mallory Johnson which made waves earlier this year, quoted as “[a] gorgeous tale of vulnerability and sisterhood that strikes just the right chord” by Billboard. Currently based in Nashville, the duo has made themselves a staple in the country music scene in both the US & Canada over the past five years, having toured extensively throughout both countries. With three CCMA Award nominations, thirteen BCCMA noms, two Vancouver Island Music awards, and two John Lennon Songwriting Award wins under their belts, Twin Kennedy have built a strong acclaim since their debut release It's a Love Thing in 2015. To date, the duo has received high praise from music tastemakers such as Billboard, Taste of Country, Rolling Stone, CMT, Sounds Like Nashville, SiriusXM, and Complete Country to name a few, and have performed on iconic stages such as The Bluebird Cafe, Canada Place, The Vancouver Olympics and many of Canada's festival stages. Twin Kennedy will be celebrating their release in Nashville with a release party Backstage @ Third and Lindsley on October 23. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased HERE. Meet Swedish artist Maja Francis! Maja is from the south of Sweden and grew up by the ocean. Born into a musical family, her dad owned a record store, her grandfather wrote music for Eurovision, and her grandmother was a singer. At the age of 20, Maja moved to Stockholm, Sweden and started playing shows at local cafes. “I was inspired to pursue music because it was what I knew, and it felt safe”. Maja has lots of musical influences such as Alanis Morrissette, The Cranberries, Cindi Lauper, Joni Mitchell, and Dolly Parton. “I am still learning about country music. I know of CAM and Morgan Wade, both of them are incredible artists. I want to be about voice, and country music is all about your voice”.
Francis was in a duo and came to the United States. They drove from Maine to Nashville and stayed for a few months. “I never saw myself represented but Dolly (Parton) had always been all pink, sparkly, but badass. She is badass and pink”. Maja released her debut album on September 24th, where her song “Anxious Angel” is featured as the final track on the Netflix series Love & Anarchy. “This album means that I’m in love with music again and here it is. It’s my proof.” The album can be heard here. Maja loves performing on small stages where the audience is really close. She hopes to play the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville one day. Maja wants aspiring artists to know that you should “If you love music, make it work. Don’t be afraid to fail and do not look at yourself from the outside”. Check out “Love Looks Like You” here and “Encore” here. The first newly released song, “Love Looks Like You”, was written as a “classic, first dance wedding song. It has a timeless song and lyrics. It is all about finding your person”. The song “Encore” is a duet with Canadian country artist and friend of ANNIKA’s, Brett Kissel. “The song was written with 4 men and it was interesting because you all have different perspectives and experiences. The song was originally written for a male artist, but I wanted the song for myself. I thought it would be a great duet because both male and female voice paints a better painting”. ANNIKA’s husband is the drummer in Brett Kissel’s band. “I asked Brett not knowing what he would say, and he wrote back in 10 minutes saying yes!”.
ANNIKA was born and raised in Calgary, Canada. She is the youngest of 5 kids and they all grew up playing music! They all played piano and a string instrument. In grade 8, ANNIKA started writing songs. She dreamt of being on Broadway. At 16, she appeared on Canadian idol. Her Canadian Idol experience made her realize she wanted to be an artist but at the time, she did not think she was good enough. The Calgary artist went to school, got an accounting degree and then became a singer on a cruise ship, “I got to see the world and get better at my craft. I got to write songs that entire time”. ANNIKA grew up loving country music. “I love Shania Twain and I didn’t realize how Shania (Twain) was pushing boundaries in country (music) and making pop country happen”. After the cruise ship, ANNIKA formed the musical duo “Leaving Thomas” with artist Bryton Udy, the duo went their own ways after 4 years. ANNIKA hopes to play at the Saddledome, the big arena in her hometown one day. A venue where she has seen many concerts like Carrie Underwood and Shania Twain, “It would be a really full circle moment in front of your city, in the stadium I grew up in”. ANNIKA wants aspiring artists to know that you should “write as many songs as you can and with as many people you can. Figure out your weaknesses. Build a team around you with people who are good at those things and gifted in them”. She also wants to pass along the message that “I hope people see that you can be a mom and at the same time pursue your dreams”. ANNIKA and her husband welcomed their first kid, a baby boy in July 2021. ANNIKA will be releasing two more songs before the end of year, with a full deluxe album coming soon! Arielle tells her story as she waits around for this guy who stands her up and has her all up in her head constantly. A true story, she tells us “My college roommate met a guy at this party who kept leading her on, and then stood her up every Friday night. She kept chasing after him until I wrote this song, which finally made her realize that he was no good, and not worth her time." Eventually, she gives him and calls him.
Arielle pairs her country twang with a pop beat to create a song that will put you in the mood to crank that radio all the way up and sing your heart out. Fans of Kelsea Ballerini, Carly Pearce, and Caylee Hammack will love. Her diction mixed with her tone is key to a stellar performance every time. Not to mention, her vocals paired with the electric guitar. For more information follow Arielle on her website here. Hannah Ellis is making waves again with her new single "Us." Watch the music video below. “Us” will serve as Ellis’ debut radio single and is available here. “When Jason Massey, Travis Wood, and I went in to write the song ‘Us,’ we were talking a lot about how times change, people change, my career even feels like it’s changing all of the time…but for me the one thing that never changes, and that I’m totally confident in, is my relationship with my husband Nick: our love and where we’re headed,” shares Ellis. “We truly are always going to be ‘Us’.” Ellis also continues, “This video captures the essence of the song in that ‘Us’ looks different for everyone. It can be a long-time lover, your best friend or a brand new crush, but we all have that someone that we feel like we can always be ourselves with. And I am so glad The Women of Country is sharing that message!” As a songwriter, Ellis has been a member of the Curb | Word Music Publishing family since 2015 and has written genre-spanning songs recorded by Carly Pearce, Russell Dickerson, Emily Weisband, Francesca Battistelli, Cassadee Pope, Sidewalk Prophets and Filmore, among others. Ellis recently released “Home And A Hometown,” the first of many stories Ellis is poised to share as an artist. She has already been crowned one of CMT’s “Next Women of Country” and named an “Artist To Watch” by Rolling Stone Country. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, the buzz-worthy singer made her Grand Ole Opry debut on Sept. 28. For more on Hannah Ellis, visit www.hannahellismusic.com. |
