Without a doubt the CMA Awards continue to prove that they can put on an event worth being called the biggest night in country music. With endless performances and unforgettable collaborations, no country music fan will ever turn down the chance to attend the CMA Awards.
Yet despite your hosts Carrie Underwood & Brad Paisley and the breathing tributes to those who've fallen each year, the awards themselves haven't changed in years. In fact Little Big Town has won Vocal Group of the Year for 6 consecutive years, a well deserving award... the first time. Plus Garth Brooks, a country music legend by all means, received his sixth Entertainer of the Year award. In fact Entertainer of the Year hasn't been awarded to a female artist since 2011 when Taylor Swift received the honor. And Miranda Lambert, the only female award winner last night, took home her 7th Female Vocalist of the Year award.
Watching the CMA Awards one could assume that only ten artists make up the entire genre, while radio stations such as Sirius XM The Highway and the Bobby Bones Show have proven otherwise.

I am currently a student at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles as a marketing major. Upon realizing that I wanted to change the way people perceive country music and to help women have a voice, I began Next Women of Country in 2015 promoting new female artists and sharing their stories with the world.
